Sometimes, the best ideas are simple. Today, I dug out my grandma's old waffle iron and decided to try making taco shells with it. It was so quick and easy, I had to share this tip: make your own taco shells with a waffle iron!
Why a waffle iron is a great choice:
Save money: Cheese slices are much cheaper than pre-made taco shells. You can make your own taco shells inexpensively by slicing cheese and grilling it on the waffle iron.
Easy to use: Using a waffle iron is simple and fast. You can cook taco shells in just minutes!
Flexible: Make as many or as few taco shells as you need. No need to heat up the whole oven for just one or two shells.
Quick heating: The waffle iron heats up quickly, so you can start cooking shells right away.
How to make low-carb taco shells with a waffle iron:
- Heat up the waffle iron.
- Slice cheese and place it on the waffle iron. You can layer two slices for thicker shells.
- Cook the taco shells until they start to brown and harden around the edges.
- Carefully remove from the waffle iron.
- Place the cheese disc over the handle of a ladle or similar kitchen utensil placed between two cups/cans to shape it into a taco shell.
- Once the taco shell has hardened, you can lift it onto a plate and fill it with your favorite toppings.
- Adjust the cooking time depending on the thickness of the cheese and how crispy you want your shells.
- Experiment with different types of cheese for unique flavors.
- Get creative with your fillings!
